From Adelaide we drove to The Grampians - a range of beautiful mountains that made an interesting change from all the beaches. Also, I used to live near the Grampians in Scotland so it was extra appealing. The views were lovely and our hotel was in a small town surrounded all round by peaks. It was hard to choose which pictures to put up as everywhere we went was fabulous and we only visited a small part of the Central Grampians called Wonderland.

Back at base (Halls Gap) we went for a stroll only to find loads of kangaroos wandering at will around the local campsite! To make it even more exciting we saw some joeys in and out of mum’s pouches and 2 large males having a stand off. And I even got the picture of one on his tail. Mind blowing and all real life wild! Gordon was so cross - he had left his camera at the hotel as we had only planned to go to the supermarket!

After the Grampians we drove to a lovely town (sorry - city) called Balarart to visit Sovereign Hill. This was a fantastic reconstruction of the gold mines and the town that built up around it from the 1850s. It was really well done with lots of knowledgable people in appropriate costumes acting out or serving or talking to visitors. My only problem was the rain - I got soaked! This was a pity as this was one of the things Gordon was most looking forward to. We went down into a mine and watched some pure gold being melted and poured. One of the facilities there are for school groups who dress up in costumes and live life of the times. We watched one class in school and were very impressed. The redcoats are there to protect us as the police were rubbish! Corrupt ex-cons from Tasmania! Have to make sure that a miners rebellion like at the Eureka Stokade does not happen again. (It's famous here!)
