Adelaide

We drove straight to Adelaide as we wanted time there and were happy not to see any more beaches for a day!! Adelaide itself gets a definite thumbs up. Relaxed, pretty and lots of shops, cafes and interesting architecture. We went into their National Trust property - Ayres House - lived in by a 5 times Premier of South Australia - Henry Ayres. We had a great guided tour with all the details but were unable to take any photos. Adelaide itself has a wide selection of places to go to. We started at Rundle Mall (fab shops) where many of the shops have their Xmas decorations up already, the sad people! Also visited the Botanic Gardens which were lovely. Pictures show the old and the new of the architecture!

Yes - Christmas has arrived in Oz!!

Following local (and good) advice we stayed in a seaside town 20 minutes tram drive from Adelaide called Glenelg. Lovely place with all the buzz of a good holiday resort. Most surprised to be woken up one morning by a massive thunder storm with huge flashes of lightning. I am beginning to pine for some heat! Had to laugh on the Tuesday as many of the locals seemed to be hooked on a horse race taking part in another state! Didn’t stop them all getting dressed up and eating and drinking too much while they watched it in TV! As for the clothes…..don’t get me started; I only wish I had taken my camera to photograph them and a dictaphone to record Gordon’s sarcastic comments!

The lovely Adelaide Hills - a bit like home.

One of the days we drove south from Adelaide through the lovely rolling hills to Victor Harbor where (after buying myself a woolly hat!!) we went on the horse drawn tram to Granite Island. This lovely little place was home to the Small Penguin. Aahh - except they were all out at sea gathering food. One day we will see them!
