Chicago

Welcome to “The Windy City”!!
Mind you – after a very enjoyable trip to Heathrow and a comfortable flight we would like to rename the city “The Stifling Hot City”!!
Our shabby chic hotel was in a prime location for everything in the city. We availed ourselves of ALL the open top bus / trolley bus trips we could; walked for miles; and used the cta train system (which was cheap and fab).
One of the days we spent in Oak Park where we had a severely fantastic overdose of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture (slide show to follow – most are FLW’s work but the rest are just good examples of Oak Park buildings).  On another day we walked along the beach (of the lake that is).
Luckily as the days passed we became more acclimatised and the weather cooled – helped by a bit of rain.
The photos are a selection of the things we saw – very hard to choose just a few as the city and it’s suburbs are full of the most amazing architecture not to mention fountains, lights, parks, lake-side and live music. Enjoy.
The big silver bean photo is officially known as “Cloud Gate”; art by Anish Kapoor. The large face is part of “Crown Fountain”, a manmade waterfall. The glass dome and mosaics are by Tiffany and The Congress Plaza is our hotel. The large waterfall is in Grant Park opposite our hotel and “performs” with lights and music every night.
